GENERAL
Summary:
Under direction, provides support in the area of communications and marketing with emphasis on event coordination to support the department's mission to retain, grow and attract investment in Macomb County while improving the overall quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing plans to promote the department initiatives and Macomb County.
Assists in coordinating special events, trade show participation and other opportunities to showcase the county's programs and services.
Works with vendors and partners to plan in-person and/or virtual events.
Coordinates locations, contracts, menus, registration, invitations, guest lists, nametags, presentation materials and set up/tear down.
Works with senior staff to control event budget and coordinate vendor payments.
Collaborates with communications and marketing teams to develop promotional plans and collateral to support events including but not limited to, invitations, social media posts, flyers, postcards, programs, banners and advertisements.
Serves as project manager for a variety of programs and initiatives, including creating and tracking task lists, completing requests and collaborating with senior staff and other teams to ensure work is completed by deadline.
Assists in researching and analyzing trends in the community and economic development including industry profiles, public policy, demographic data and other relevant needs for information.
Assists in writing copy for a range of outputs including press releases, blogs, website content, promotional brochures and newsletters.
Proofreads and edits documents written by others in compliance with Associated Press (AP) Stylebook as well as internal style guidelines.
Proofreads and edits assignments that range from formal letters, advertising content, promotional materials for events, fact sheets and executive speaking points.
Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with others to advance Macomb County initiatives, services and events.
Provides support for other program areas and projects as assigned, including special requests of the Office of the County Executive.
Operates an automobile while performing assigned duties.
Represents the County at meetings and public hearings as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Required Education and Experience A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, English, Business Management, Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field Two (2) years of experience in coordinating a variety of events One (1) year of experience developing promotional campaigns and materials, business attraction or economic development One (1) year of experience maintaining website content and/or developing content for an assortment of social media outlets Preferred Education and Experience A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, English, Business Management, Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field Three (3) or more years of experience in developing promotional campaigns and materials, business attraction or economic development Three (3) or more years of experience maintaining website content and/or developing content for social media Three (3) or more years of experience coordinating a variety of events Experience creating visually interesting photographs or compelling videos Required Licenses or Certifications Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES Knowledge of:
